Chetty Lake with an area of 7.45 acres is situated in the heart of Ariyalur Municipality
and was once the source of drinking water. Over a period of time the lake and its surroundings
were encroached upon and were considerably degraded. During the current year, it has been
proposed to beautify the Chetti Lake by making it a recreation spot under the Self Sufficiency
Scheme of the State Government. Construction of a compound wall, walkway, Children’s Park and
landscaping are envisaged. The District Administration acknowledges the contributions of Dalmia
Cements (Rs 11.5 lakhs), Ultra Tech Cements Ltd (Rs 11.5 lakhs), Chettinad Cements (Rs 7.5 lakhs),
RTC, Ariyalur (Rs 2 lakhs), Bank of India (Rs 1.7 lakhs) towards this endeavour which is a long
felt need of the public of Ariyalur. Two third of the cost will be borne by the State Government.
